Mrs. Lynde’s husband passes away. Marilla considers living with Mrs. Lynde at Green Gables in order to raise the twins and encourages Anne to go to college. Diana tells Anne she has gotten engaged to Fred. Not long after, Miss Lavendar and Paul’s father get married at Echo Lodge, and the family moves to the United States. Everything around Anne is changing. She is agonizing over whether to follow Marilla’s suggestion because she feels a sense of purpose in her work as a teacher, so she discusses it with Gilbert who has already decided to pursue further studies.
