At Diana and Fred’s wedding, Anne is the bridesmaid and Gilbert is best-man. Marilla and the others express are disappointed that Anne and Gilbert won’t marry despite making such a good couple. At Diana’s happy wedding, Anne has carefree conversations with all the old friends she’s seeing for the first time in so long, and is even able to talk with Gilbert as intimately as they once did. When Anne confides in Gilbert that she feels she is losing her place in Avonlea, he quietly tells her to find a new place to belong.
