Q: How did you feel when you were chosen to do the OP for Anne Shirley?

I first came into contact with Anne of Green Gables at a young age, so I was really surprised when I was chosen to participate.
When I thought that, among the people who watch Anne Shirley, maybe some of the them will be children who will use the series as something they hold on to in order to help them stand up, it motivated me to try to make this the sort of unwavering song that could support any child.
When I received the offer, I was in the process of looking back to my own childhood and facing the complexes that I had in my past, so the timing made it feel as though something was leading me to have this involvement with Anne, and that makes me incredibly happy.

Q: What feelings did you put into the song?

“Yokan” is a song for changing the scenery of your daily life.
We live in a modern world that goes by dizzyingly fast, and we tend to become pessimistic when we encounter realities in it that we are unable to change. But nothing is wholly negative, and I think that we can find alternate angles to look at things from. I was encouraged by the way that, even as she runs into various difficulties, Anne always tries to find a positive reading of things. I have a feeling that the existence of Anne is something we can all use as a support to help us stand back up when we’re down. It would make me happy if this song could do the same.

Q: Can we have a comment for the viewers?

Rereading Anne of Green Gables as part of making this song, I found Anne’s positivity incredibly radiant. I also feel like, when I experienced this work as a small child, I was more open to it, and looked at it with a viewpoint closer to hers, so realizing that also made me sad. But when I realized one of the premises of this work was that even the kids who have the same power as Anne to view things positively have complexes that they’re dealing with, that made me feel better. Not everything that happens in our day to day lives can be positive, but this is a work that I’d like everyone who has people who are important to them to see. I’m sure they’ll suddenly find that Anne has opened the window of their hearts. I’d like it if they could remember “Yokan” when that happens. I’ll be waiting.
