The eleven-year-old Anne Shirley moves from the orphanage to Green Gables on Prince Edward Island. She is a cheerful girl with a vibrant imagination and distinctive red hair. The siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert had actually wanted a boy, but Matthew takes a shine to Anne on the way home from the station, and even Marilla, who initially plans to return her to the orphanage, relents once she learns of the girl’s pure heart and sad past. Despite the great uncertainty hanging over her, Anne dreams of a bright future.
