Anne is refusing to attend school. She has a tea party at Green Gables with Diana, but serves her friend wine by accident, causing Diana’s mother to refuse to let them play together anymore. Anne returns to school in order to see Diana. Though she isn’t able to speak to Diana, she works hard at her studies, and forms a rivalry with Gilbert. One wintery day, while their parents are away from the house because the Canadian Prime Minister has come to the island, Diana’s little sister develops a case of croup that puts her life at risk. Anne uses her experience looking after small children to try to treat the girl.
